Default Crossbow Triggers

I plan on buying a crossbow this year. It will probably be a 10 point or Excaliber since they are featured at a local store. I am interested information relating to the quality of any crossbow trigger. Thank you in adavance for any info.

I have only shot one crossbow made by Ten Point and it was their cheaper line. Trigger was bad - gritty take up to stop (like a two stage), then another gritty take up, then about a 4.5# release.

I owned an Excalibur and have shot others that ranged from fair to good. The one I had released at about 3.24# after a fairly long take up.

I know that Trigger Tech makes triggers for Excalibur bows and I believe they also make ones for Ten Point (not certain on that point). Their triggers are as nice as any rifle trigger out there.

I shoot a Kodabow, which has a nice trigger from the factory with almost non perceivable take up and release at 3.75#. There are likely better triggers on some bows, but I have not shot them.

Bottom line - shoot it before you buy it. If you buy an Excal, there are trigger replacements available. You will have to check on that point for Ten Point.

I have owned a Barnett and a Horton. My hunting buddy shoots a 10x. Never weighed any of the triggers, but all have some take up before release, and all are smooth - sort of a two stage feel like One Eye Joe said. Not exactly crisp like a well tuned rifle, but all are very shootable. Pictured is the first deer I took with a crossbow when I switched from traditional archery gear in 2012.

Personal opinion is a good thing, and everyone is entitled to one. The hard part is separating informed opinion from someone who is just blowing hot air....

I picked up a Center Point Cross Fire Sniper 370 this fall. Fast and very accurate with field points on the bolts that came with it. Would accurately put a bolt back in the same hole from 30 yards. Broad heads on those shafts all shot bad and I tried several fixed and several mechanical. I got some Gold Tip 425 Ballistic shafts with a 100 gn.weighted front and now with a 100 gn. Slick Trick Viper Trick if you shoot 2 bolts at the same point of aim from 30 yards you will screw up a bold almost every time. The trigger sucks though. But, for the price I do not think you can beat it.
