Very productive evening I kept hearing what I thought was Turkey in the corn but did not have clear view so wend and sat in some tall grass sun to my back and facing the corn not more than 10 min this big boy walked out 25 yards away never even looked at me.
The whole time I was sitting on the ground my oldest daughter was texting me that she had shot a doe and she was asking what to do she was exited for her first deer. After a little tracking she recovered it. So I got to walk her through the first gut. This was a great day and taking home a good amount of food this will take the pressure off me for gun season for sure.
Similar thing happened to me last weekend. Was watching 6 toms that I'd been patterning in a cornfield Sunday night. Knew sooner or later they would come by me and give me a shot. While watching them closely I saw a large brown form slip past them heading in my direction. Few minutes later this guy jumped the fence and gave me a 40 yard broadside shot. Went about 30 yards and piled up.
looks like a decent sized doe. Give her a pat on the back for me.
For her first kill it was a decent doe not sure who was more excited her for her first kill or me for being able to teach her and pass on the skills for a successful hunt.
She was right on with containing the excitement not getting right up to look and tracking the blood. Ran about 100 yards. She recovered her bolt on the trail will make for a nice memento. The first gut was entertaining talking her through it reminded me of my first time when my Brother talked me through. Passing on this experience is one of the rewarding things I will cherish
