I prefer the model 94 over the marlin because of its looks. Not the 94 with those ugly humps on the action.
And, the 94 is lighter.
I had a model 94 back in 63 and loved it.
Are you recoil sensitive? Do you plan to use optics? The 94 will likely have more felt recoil. It's also harder to mount a scope on a 94. If those aren't issues, you'll probably like it just fine.
Never met a lever gun I didn't like, but the 94 is definitely my favorite.
If you need/want a scope go with the Marlin/Savage/Win88. It's almost criminal to put a scope on a 94! With open or peep sights it's the handiest rifle ever designed for carrying in the woods.
It's a lever, what's not to like? I have winnie's, marlins, savages and ithaca's and I like them all. I'd like the colt I can't afford too.
