Howdy! Has anyone grown these that you know of ? I had a plant with berries come up in my yard and I thought it might be nightshade so I removed it. However, I have been reading about garden huckleberries and that they may be easy to grow. Let me know of your experiences. Thank you!
Always, Gene
Horrible, horrible tasting berries on what we long ago grew as garden huckleberries. it wasn't a bush but more of a blueberry like stem. Ya grew them one year and that was the end of them. They were an annual not a perennial and for sure not a bush like real blueberries.
I raise blueberries here, rabbiteye bushes, as that's what the south produces best. If you want blueberries to eat then get bushes and plant them. If you aren't in the deep south you'll need to get high bush berries rather than rabbiteye bushes.
I remember Mom raising garden huckleberries when I was a kid. Bristle stems like okra, and hard crunchy berries that had to be cooked. With enough sugar, they could be made into a blue pie. I hated picking them.
