I never really followed the dates on the Almanac. There is such a wide range in their dates that I plant when I can stick my finger in the soil and if feels warm. For me that is usually Memorial wknd in my area of zone 4
Never really followed a planting schedule. We generally wait until the mesquite trees start budding out here in the Texas hill country to set out tomato plants and plant pretty much everything except okra which gets planted in late May/early June.
The old timers in our area used to say for planting corn, "When you can sit on the bare ground on your bare butt for five minutes and not get cold, its time to plant corn."
I'm gonna have to remember that one. That's a good one but it might be hard to explain to my neighbors across the way what i'm doing.
