So this time of year what is your favorite thing to eat that you’ve put up from your garden? For me it’s probably the stewed tomatoes. Growing up we would thicken them, add some butter, salt, pepper and a little sugar. Then put them over potatoes. I can eat only that for a meal and be very happy.
Longwinters
Potatoes, in many forms.
Purple Peruvian are absolutely the very best; I cooked some yesterday for making mashed potatoes, boiled with skin on.
They do not peel easily , so I mash most in with the skin on but I boiled them in spiced water and ate a couple right out of the pot, just potato -- fantastic, I have to eat more that way.
Chilli base made out of red, green , yellow tomatoes, chiles all color hot and sweet, tomatillos, onions out of the garden.
I wish I had put some radishes in; I like radishes in chilli.
Didn't freeze any corn this year, and I have found frozen corn just is not as good as fresh.
Squash, lots of squash, though it is near all gone.
Ate all my cucumbers so I made no pickles either.
We cut a double armload of collards in our garden today. I hope to get one more harvest. They are best after a frost, but temps in the low 20's will kill them.
