Default Help with bore on a 24F (hornet/20 gauge).

Picked up a slightly used one on an online auction, it came in today. The external parts of the gun look much better than the pictures. However the bore of the hornet appears to have a very small area of damage in the rifling area right after the chamber. I was hoping that after running a bore snake threw it twice it would work some kind of magic but it did not. Iím not quite sure how to react?

Hard to tell what you think the problem is. Rust? Fouling? Missing rifling? Try a little JB or Flitz on a tight fitting patch on a brass jag to see if it cleans up before doing anything more aggressive. Sometimes fouling comes loose from the barrel wall after soaking in solvent for a few days and looks funny but cleans up easily. Rusty pitted bores can collect fouling too but may smooth over after shooting.

Thanks Dave, I ran a patch with Blue Wonder a few times followed up by the brass .22 brush 5 more times. The a few more patches the snake again and one more pass with a clean patch and itís still there. The gun is basically mint with the exception of this. I will take your advice and hopefully it will work. Iím really disappointed the gun look better in person than the pictures except for this flaw

Sorry I can't really give you much advice but do try some flitz. Maybe a hundred strokes and take another look.

Havenít tried the flitz yet. Itís such a small spot my gun buddies didnít notice it at first. The money I paid for it, I could have got a really nice bolt gun. Seller will work with me as I want to see how it shoots scoped before I send it back. Was a bad week for me and Gunbroker last week. I have sold hundreds of guns online and never got bad feedback

I bought a near new 24F several years ago, sold it soon after, and just bought it back today. The Hornet is only behind the 357 Mag and 357 Max in rarity. If it shoots good and you didn't over pay your likely ok.
