A High Honor
"To be called to follow Christ is a high honor, higher indeed than any honor men can
bestow upon each other." A. W. Tozer

COMMITMENT TO LIFELONG MINISTRY

John McKenzie (1835 – 1899) was a British missionary and a constant champion of
Africans in South Africa. He was a member of the London Missionary Society (now
Council for World Missions). He went to South Africa in 1858, began his missionary
work there, and continued in the Tswana Territories, known as Bechuanaland, until
his death. However, years before, as a young man, he prayed, “O Lord, send me to the
darkest spot on earth!” He felt God did just that, and he remained faithful
throughout his lifetime.^1

Shortly before his martyrdom, Paul wrote, “I fought the good (worthy, honorable, and
noble) fight, I have finished the race, I have kept (firmly held) the faith” (2
Timothy 4:7).

A seasoned pastor stated, “When you come to a place to make a commitment for a
lifelong ministry in the place where God has called you, it will change your
decision making process. Your decision will be more balanced and less affected by
emotions, because it is a commitment between you and the Lord. When you make a
commitment to lifelong ministry, you will outlast people who make emotional
commitments, because they do not make a lifelong commitment to the church.”^2
