Default MS primative weapon of choice

Gov signed into law the MS primative weapon of choice. This law says that Mississippians may use on private lands any weapon they choose for the primative weapons seasons during Dec and Jan. The only season that limits one to a primative weapon will be the early season in Nov. Bout time they get it right. Law takes effect 2014 House Bill 1139 if you want to read it.

I moved to MS last fall and was a little disappointed that my Ruger No 1 didn't qualify. I realize this post if from a year ago but can you tell me the details of the new rules? Everyone I have talked has a different story as to whats legal and what isn't.

BS.
The modified rules allow for H&R style rifles since they are single shot with exposed hammer. Any caliber is allowed. There may be newer modified rules, but any replica single shot with exposed hammer seems to be okay. I use my Ruger #1 during regular season. I live in SW MS and hunt my own place.

Pretty soon in Mississippi you will be able to hunt what ever you want, when ever you want, with what ever you want. I remember in the 70's and 80's lobbying for and pushing the legislature for the early bow season and the 'primitive' seasons we have now. It was sure nice to get in the woods with out all the noisy pilgrims and enjoy hunting with primitive weapons. There is nothing primitive about the seasons or weapons now. Maybe it's time to start lobbying for a true primitive weapons season again. Anyone interested?

A few years ago I think a lot of us were culture shocked to see the modern primitive weapons rules allowing single shot with metallic cartridges. I was shocked again by the allowing of a 'doe week' or 'antlerless' deer hunting week for this new season as well in MS. When I was growing up we had a 'doe day', but that was it. Antlers were not to be taken last week but did officially start for bucks on Nov. 22.
I think that due to a decrease in hunting and the continued urbanization of our planet, rules are having to be modified to match the growing deer populations and allow more to be taken. It seems as if this means 'by any means necessary'.

that's because it was worded very much wrong.
(i personally object to "weapon", but that's just me)
here in texas, it's muzzleloader only season, has
to be loaded through the muzzle to be legal, no
breech loaders allowed. if yall get to fix it, you'll
want to word it similarly.
