Thanks for the info. I bought a Henry 357 magnum & was very discouraged with the trigger pull weight. I have ordered the springs from Grainger, & hope to make the gun a 'shooter'. It just bothers the **** out of me that we buy new rifles, & then have to spend $$ to get them where they should have been out of the box.

A 7-10 lb trigger pull should be no issue on a caliber such as 357 Mag. If you want to use it to squash prairies or groundhogs in your lot then I can understand. The 357 is meant for game that would not require a 3 lb pull. I bet the old H&R single shots has a trigger just the same. I do have a little bias here since I am a Henry Gold dealer. Manufacturers are reluctant to make guns with less the 4# on handguns and less than 7# on long guns due to the liability of accidental discharge. If you want a sweet trigger you will end up paying for it up front or take care of it yourself. Now if you were talking about the 243 Win single shot at a 7# pull, not a biggie, but more understandable.
Fred. Glad you like 7-10 pound trigger pull weights. Judging by the number of folks modifying the triggers (on this forum & others), you are in a distinct minority.
I disagree! I think singleshot rifles shouldn't come with light triggers. Perhaps Ruger @1's and such.I don't want a young inexperienced shooter handling a gun with a light trigger, and single shot rifles are a great first gun. Henry probably feels the same way. More important than a light trigger, I like one that has no creep and breaks clean. You can always do as you did and reduce the trigger pull. You cannot please everyone.
An adjustable trigger would solve all of these concerns/preferences. They are not anything new. They even come on entry level bolt actions. I am sure it can be done without raising production cost too much, but I have the feeling some lawyer somewhere screwed that up.
A Henry single shot in 357 is in my future. I will be adjusting the trigger pull to an acceptable hunting weight. 4.5 to 5 lbs is my preferred weight. It will also be reamed up to Max too.
If you ever get a chance, pull the trigger on a CVA Scout or Hunter, which are break open rifles as well. Crisp, clean and light. Henry needs to fire the attorneys and get with the plan. They claim reducing the trigger weight is impossible and dangerous.
The Henry rifle I bought is accurate enough, but the trigger has creep and misfires when I switched springs in any different combo. It will be my last Henry.
If anyone bought extra springs and you could part with one can you pm me ? Also has there been any word on anybody offering a peep sight ?My gun a 30-30 shoots low at 50 yards.Thats with 170 gr .Would it shoot higher with 150 gr ?I saw info on what scope bases are being used and was just looking around for and didn't find it.However my gun has good wood.
Any scope base made for an H&R/NEF single shot will fit the Henry, base mounting on later production rifles can be done as they are, earlier production require about an 1/8" to be removed from the rear of the base since Henry positioned the holes for the Weaver 82, they finally moved the mount holes a bit further forward to accommodate all H&R scope bases on later production.
gmg - the Williams Guide Receiver Sight (WGRS) made for the H&R will have the correct hole spacing. I don't know if the barrel contour is exactly the same but should be close so the sight base could be fitted without too much work.
Or for a classier sight get a Skinner peep sight - they should have something to work on it.
Beautiful wood I must say. Sure beats the H&R pallet wood. I would also be very disappointed with that kind if trigger pull, even much more so if not a clean, crisp pull. Liability? Why does Savage offer adjustable triggers from about 2.5 to 5 pound? Other brands do too. My Uberti El Patron .45 revolver pull I would guess at about 2 pounds or even a bit less. Very, very light.

I got my Henry 30-30 Saturday. Thank you for the detailed instructions. I put the grainger spring in this morning. The hammer pull felt spongy and loose after. It would not ingite a primer. So I put the small spring back in. It pulls at 3.3 and it popped off 10 primers with no issues. I put a sightrom h1 3x9x40 on it and bore sighted it. I plan to shoot Hornady ftx 160 grain with 35.5 of leverevolution powder. Tonight we are getting 10-12 inches of snow, so my range time may be delayed. Thank you for the fix and instructions
Only you can decide that. The heavy trigger doesn't bother me on my 45/70, tho a lighter one would be nice I'm not going to mess with it. I shot 3 into just under an inch at 50 yards despite the heavy trigger and stout recoil.
