Default Man! It Hurts

I lost a good friend today to a sudden heart attack. Norm was an avid caster, reloader, and an accomplished shooter. He won numerous military shooting competitions in the machine gun (M60) discipline, sniper disciplines, and several NRA competitions. He served in the Michigan Nat'l Guard as a combat medic, which during the 1980s and 1990s was a controversial MOS for shooting competitions. He was a gentle giant who loved children and was very good with them. My 5 and 7 year olds adored him and always baked cookies for him during all the holiday seasons. My heart aches from receiving the news and I'm not even immediate kin to him.

RIP Soldier!

May God bless his family.

Thanks, Dinny

The Last Roll Call

Here we stand in formation
To honor a brother who served his nation
One by one our names are read
As the tears begin to shed
His name is called there is no sound
Just solemn faces all around
Three times in all his name is said
But he cannot answer for he is dead

READY AIM FIRE
READY AIM FIRE
READY AIM FIRE

He will never shoot another round
His rifle sticks in the ground
I see the boots he used to wear
They’re empty now he isn’t there
I’ll forever remember the day he died
I’ll remember today when we all cried
So on this day we say goodbye
But in our hearts he’ll never die

I reload and shoot 348 Win, 358 Win, 6.5 Grendel, 30-06 Springfield, 300 BLK, 44 Mag, 357 Maximum, 9mm, 45 ACP, 45 Colt, 225 Win and 35 Rem

Thanks everyone! His son had the painful task of packing his father's belongings and moving them from the house he rented. He's just awaiting the death certificate and a memo giving him permission to fly his ashes back home to Michigan for funeral services to be made. I plan to be there in full dress uniform to pay my final respect.

Thanks, Dinny

The "Last Roll Call" real puts it all into perspective.
I had never hear this before.

I carry a single shot.
'cause it only takes one shot.
