Ear healed well and is not noticeable. We tried frs/gmrs radios but eventually went to texting on the phone as the simplest way to communicate.

I am a retired CG officer. Not legal to use marine frequencies for your stated purpose. You will never be charged.

If both destinations are on the same main power panel just get an inexpensive intercom set. I have one unit in the house and another in the garage 50+ ft. away. Plug it in to any outlet and you are done... Must use house wiring fo voice??? Works great...
