Default my new ruger

yesterday, saturday i picked up two new handguns.
i also picked up another glock

this is a ruger american compact pro in 9mm
ive been interested in one of these ever since ruger introduced them. this version is a "pro" meaning no external safety.
comes with two stainless steel mags , one 12 round with a flat or pinky extention and one 17 round with a sleeve

this is a bit heavier due to alot of the parts being metal
has real novak 3 dot sights and 3 different back straps,
true ambi slide stop and mag release

I actually just won one of these in a gun raffle.
It is my first striker fired hand gun.

Mine came from the Law Enforcment Division of Ruger.
It came with three of the twelve round mags and Trijicon tritium night sights ...
It is a compact Pro Model "0836" Not even listed on Ruger's web site.

Shot it today for the first time. My brother and I both agreed that it shot great and had less felt recoil than expected.
Sort of like a soft buffered recoil. Not at all snappy.
I was able to get back on target quite quickly during rapid fire. I enjoyed shooting it.

Already having two nines, I was thinking about selling it , but I think it is a keeper. Besides, I have never won a free gun before.
The shops around here say that it is not a popular seller. I bet if more people new how well it handled they would sell more.

Good luck with yours, I hope you like it too.

thanks JT ..
yeah i like mine. i ended up putting the pinky extention on the mag for better grip and now it groups better
mine came with steel novak 3 dot sights, but yeah it shoots really good

the felt recoil is low because the gun is so heavy ( 28 ounces empty ) because it has steel parts where other like sized guns use plastic parts
but like all rugers, its over built, solid as a vault and will last several life times

mine is the 9mm version too, but they do come in a 45acp version but no 40sw ( not yet anynow )

anyway, congrats to you for winning a gun and enjoy your ruger

Thank you scibaer you enjoy yours as well.
I was using the pinky extension on my mags too. Although If I were to concealed carry it I think I would use the flat mag plate.

I wonder if you can interchange calibers on these at all? Or if Ruger plans to do anything like that.
Would be nice to buy a slide a grip and a few magazines and have a different caliber.

i have no idea if a barrel swap would work .. on my smith m&p i can, but i have not seen or read anything about it on the rugers.. i dont even know if the 45's are the same size or different

i went to the local shop today, and had one hard time even finding a holster that fit it .. ended up with the safariland gls .. it works , but its big and its too long really .. i dont like it but for now it will work
funny thing is, it also works with my glocks and smith .. its designed to i guess ( be a multi fit holster )

but being a 9 , we'd have to have a different mag too , and a 45 swap would prolly have to be a single stack
