The SS tax was in addition to income tax. And was promised to be used for our old age retirement. We paid into it above all the other taxes levied on us. To call it welfare is disgusting to say the least Conan.

So Conan. When are you going to apologize to the Texans for what it was you said?

I stand by every disparaging remark I've ever made about Texas barbecue and chili. If Texans chose to be offended, then they have made that choice for themselves.

Those two are not exactly socialist, since most of us paid into each for much of our working lives. Starting with LBJ, it is the government which has robbed such things as the "social security trust fund"..

If you want to get rid of pure socialist programs..look into food stamps, WIC or a number of other programs where the recipients paid nothing directly into the program.

I didn't say welfare. I said welfare state. Is that not a commonly understood term and concept?

SS/Medicare was designed to get certain entities paid first and foremost. I see you will never get that idea.

Its a program administered by the government since no other entity could create it for so many people.

Ask your insurance agent to underwrite a disability insurance with dependent coverage, inheritable by your spouse and with elder age annuity rider. Get back to us with details and costs.

I'm not surprised. Obviously lots of people love it. I don't. Now, a really good southern pit barbecue is not only worth traveling for, it's worth moving to the town where you can get it. I've been saying for years that our next civil war will be over barbecue.
