I don't think it is possible for the government to give anyone any money that they didn't take from somebody to start with. My thought is, if the government can spend trillions on bailing out banks, corporations, airlines, wall street, etc.(with money confiscated from the American people), Government should also bail out the American people when bad decisions are made, like deciding to shut down the economy.
Bailing out banks and corporations in 2008, while expecting people to still pay their mortgages and utility bills, after losing their jobs due to government mismanagement made no sense to me.
Why should people have to lose their house to a bank that went bankrupt, but somehow, the bank still survives? Why should people lose their retirement while the FED pours trillions into Wall Street to keep it solvent?
Isn't ALL the debt for all these bailouts thrown on the backs of the people who never seem to get "bailed out" by anyone? Wouldn't it actually be cheaper to just give these trillions of dollars directly to the people...who are really the only ones who can drive the economy in the first place?
I just don't understand why I need to bail out a bank, airline, auto company, or anyone else, when there is no one to bail out me when these idiots screw up? Maybe if these institutions would have just gone under like the rest of us do, they would have been replaced by a better company...or a better economic system. Why are we forced to enable either corruption, incompetence, or both?
