Quote:
My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand. I and my Father are one.

This text has resonated in my heart and mind for the past several years as I contemplate my own ability to hold onto Jesus. I'll be preaching from it this morning in fact as we say farewell to our church before we move.

One observation someone once made on the nature of sheep gets at the heart of why the Jews would pick up stones in v. 31.

Quote:
We may judge ourselves tonight by considering whether or not we are Christ’s sheep. Do we acknowledge ourselves as belonging to him, spirit, soul, and body? Do we regard ourselves as being, in relationship with him, no wiser, no stronger, than sheep to a shepherd? I know some who are certainly not sheep of Christ’s flock, for they will be led by nobody in heaven, or on earth; but must have their own sweet way. They are critics of the Bible, not disciples of it. They might be very good dogs, but they are very abnormal sheep. They would make very respectable wolves, for they are great with destructive criticism; but they certainly are not sheep; and their disposition and spirit are such that they would scorn the character, if they understood it. “What! to go where I am led? To lie down where I am told to lie down? Not to choose my own way? Just to see nothing, and know nothing; but to have my eyes always on the Shepherd, and my wisdom subject to his? To be shepherded by another mind than my own? Is it so? Am I to be nothing but a sheep to the Lord Jesus?”
Powerful observation.

DEE. Years ago I met a man telling a story in Church. He was on a machine gun in I think Iraq. He saw a shepherd with his sheep coming, but going the other way was another shepherd and his sheep meeting him. The 2 men stopped and talked a bit while the sheep mingled.
He thought what a mess it would be separating hundreds of sheep. The men went their own ways then stopped and called their sheep. Hundreds of sheep separated and followed their masters voice. Kinda like following Jesus, follow our masters voice?? CHARLIE.

Hope it was OK to post this here, if not, delete it or transfer to the religious board.

A bit of wisdom my friend, and what a demonstration of Biblical truth.
Thanks for sharing that.

Man, men tend to operate on feelings. DO I feel saved today, as an example. God does not operate on feelings, only knowledge of the truth, Blessings

Yes it is.
Man's ego in too many cases keeps him from bending a knee to Jesus.
We MUST change to sheep and bend that knee, because Jesus didn't sacrifice himself for funsies.

Hello Bill. Been a while.
And, your right. Gods all about truth, and truth doesn't have an agenda.
It's when man gets involved when the agenda appears.
