We as Americans have a habit of thinking that Europe means only England, France, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany, and that therefore all Europeans are limp-wristed liberal socialists.
What we forget is that southeastern Europe contain countries like Hungary, the Ukraine, Romania, and Serbia, etc. I can tell you that those people are highly nationalistic, brutal, hard-core people, who often live in near-poverty and have to work their tails off for everything they get. They have no interest whatsoever in seeing their countries and culture destroyed by waves of unchecked foreign immigration. Those countries survived 4 years of Nazi occupation, and then 40 years of Soviet occupation. They will build walls, enforce their laws with rifles, and really don't give a darned about what the more "civilized" countries of Europe say about them.
Yes, some think that way, and that is why I was careful to specify the EU (basically western Europe). The eastern European countries have had their fill of being traumatized, first by fascism then by socialism, two very similar movements. They have tasted both and hate both. That is exactly why they are fully embracing capitalism(freedom) now.
Our first lady is from Slovenia, part of the old Yugoslavia..a country that was was tortured under socialism/communism.
"Politically correct" language, is really Orwellian 'newspeak'. (Michael Cutler)
