I think drillings came from the habit of Europeans NOT going deer hunting, or quail hunting or squirrel hunting; It came from just "going hunting" where they killed everything from a boar hog to a rabbit on one trip. Them folks ate everything including song birds.

So, I consider a drilling, a status thing among other drilling owners, which is fine, it's sorta like a drilling club.
