Shockwave, beyond the bugout.
Okay, we have established the Mossberg Shockwave is a decent home defense and bugout shotty, or some of us have. They are cool and handy, but what happens when all 'ell breaks loose and you have to think long term protection and food gathering. What are the capabilities of the Shockwave for sustaining a food supply, if say you only had the little shotty tucked safely in the trunk and were not able to get home for your main supplies? I've seen videos of guys shooting clays quite successfully and then I ran across this video ... hunting ... deer ... What says you ??? I found this an educational piece. The Shockwave beyond the cool toy in the safe. Capable within its limits.

ive shot a number of deer with buckshot. Its allways killed well but I prefer a slug for one reason and that's that buck with all its pellets just tears up to much meat. As to using a shockwave. Why not? As long as you treat it like a box and keep your shots at 25 or less it would be a wicked killing weapon. Some of the most impressive kills ive witnessed have been close shots with buckshot. Id like to get a shockwave myself but it would be more of a toy for me then anything. I think for hunting id leave it home and take a 18 inch pump gun with a stock and a redot shooting a slug. But if you were in a survival situation one slung over your back would take care of a lot of business. small light and compact enough that you could sling one over your back for when its necessary and carry an AR for real work. don't know the legality of it but I know there making some arm brace style stocks for them. With a shockwave brace or sig stock you would really have a efficient defense gun even if it was the only thing you carried.

The Shockwave is one of those guns I just can't get excited about. I can see where it has a place, but to me it's too specialized. Obviously with buckshot, and at relatively short range it will kill a deer, the guy demonstrated that beyond a doubt.

For my use I'd much rather have a buttstock and an 18 or 20 inch barrel. Bigger and heavier? Yes, but also much more versatile.

Now, if you wanted something formidable to carry under a trench coat on a sling the Shockwave would be just the ticket!

I agree spruce. In a real shtf situation that you had to rely on killing game to eat a 18 inch gun with a stock would hands down be the best choice. sure you can kill a deer at 25 yards with a good rest out of a blind but what happens when the deer aren't around and the grouse, ducks and geese are flying by. Good luck wing shooting with one. It would take more skill then I have. I guess one train of thought is if shtf ever did really happen the law wouldn't count for much and a guy could pretty easily slap a real stock on it though.
