I have tried shooting off of sticks and could not get the steadiness that I had hoped for. Any hints from you guys?

Long,
I just use a tall walking stick to shoot off of. I will take a wide stance for stability. Then hold the stick at a point that will allow me to shoot at the height I need too. I lay the contender across my wrist. I can either lean my body or the stick to adjust my shot. That has always worked for me. My avatar actually show the stick I use.

Iím still getting used to shooting off of them with a pistol. I carried them during deer camp but I found myself still relaying on a solid branch or pasture fence post.
