Default Finally have my hunting Rig

After 20 yrs of mostly brush gun whitetail hunting in the thick woods of Pennsylvania I have taken on the challenge of handgun hunting. I was introduced to the world of the Contender about 2 years ago after shooting a 14Ē 30-30. Since that day I decided to build a rig that I consider to be ideal for my hunting style. I went with the following. 1975 receiver, pach grip and forend, and the longest item to find was a 12Ē barrel with a brake chambered in 7-30 Waters. Topped with a 2x fixed Weaver glass. I reload using a 120 grain Nozzler BT with 34.5 grains of Winchester 748 ball powder. On the bench I canít believe how incredibly accurate this setup is at 100 yrds......time will tell if I can do my part in the woods!!!Finally have my hunting Rig-img_4153.jpg

Nice rig in a great chambering! Just watch for light primer strikes with that hammer extension, some guns canít use them.

Your rig should work well. I have taken many with a handgun, using contenders and Super Blackhawks.
Make sure you use a rest, don't take risky shots, and really concentrate on keeping the sights / crosshairs on the spot while slowly squeezing the trigger. You'll do fine, good luck!

I like a shorter "Hunter Barrel " TC rig. Your all in black setup , makes for an "all business" hand cannon.

Congrats from a handgun hunter , right outside of Pittsburgh.

Thanks vvllbs. The 7mm TCU is definitely a versatile caliber in the Contender. I imagine that was fun to shoot??

Your rig looks familiar to me. Mine is in 44 magnum with the 2x illuminated reticle T/C scope. You are definitely right about the accuracy of these rigs. My longest shot was 98 yards on a nice size doe. It went right down after taking a few steps. I have lost count on how many deer this one has taken over the last 20 or so years.

Good luck with your new rig.

Jim,
Looks good! I hope the opportunity presents itself this year. I was at the range yesterday shooting off of sticks and feel very confident out to 100
