As I mentioned above, Great American Gun Stocks has Ruger No. 3 & No. 1 wood. Expensive. Also check Treebonecarving.com. They are much more reasonable there. I believe the laminated wood on the wildcat came from Wenig.com. I have no experience with them. You might also want to contact Gunstocksinc.com. I have a different stock from them and it was plain, but solid wood at a very reasonable price.

Have a 223, 375, 44 mag and 45-70. My dilemma is that I have a 357 magnum #1 barrel that I want to put on one of these...but who which one do I booger up? So that is why I've been looking for a boogered up #3 or #1 to put that 357 mag barrel on....

I really like the #3's but the 45-70 is best loaded light or fitted with a pad. The 223 is a tack driver and has at least 2500 full power rounds through it, the 44 mag is not super accurate but fun to shoot.

BTW....the 375 has never been shot.

Your 375 has too been shot. You have never shot it. All firearms are factory tested and fired. Next time your on your way out to the range throw it and a box of ammo in the truck. It's a thumper.
One of the companies on the inter net sells no. 1 actions. I forget if its Mid South that advertises here on Grey beard or Midway.
Good luck with your 357 project.

I re-barreled my hornet into a 40-90 wildcat [ equal to a rimmed 416x375 H&H ]...............my first rifle to shoot a 3/8" group at 100 yds off the bench..........................going to change it back to a hornet..............17 Ackley this time!

Brother still has one in a Hornet.

I recently bought five. A 45-70, 44 Magnum, 375 Winchester, 30-40 Krag, and a .22 Hornet. Three of them are 200th year. Still looking for a .223 caliber. Great little guns, if you own one, hang on to it.

I have two - .22 Hornet and .44 mag. I use Millett extension rings to move the scope closer to my eye. I love No. 1's and 3's. Both of mine were bought used, but in excellent condition - still are. I am still looking for a 30-40 Krag chambering. I also have No. 1's in 45-70 and .257 Roberts. I have owned several No. 1's over the years, but these are the calibers I am most happy with.

IMO - if you find one in good condition - buy it.

I have a #3 that was was given to me by a very good friend.
He designed a wildcat cartridge and had it up. It is a shortened Hornet case with at 30 degree shoulder. It shoots a 40 gr. hornady at 2400 fps. He had a Pac Nor barrel on it.
He mounted a Weaver V16 on it and it shoots one hole groups at 100 yds.
I have only shot it once since he gave it to me. Killed a groundhog the afternoon he passed it to me, cleaned it, put it up and it's still there.

He spent a lot of time working on the stock, reshaped and refinished. Nice little rifle. Means a lot to me.

Would love to have it in a good hunting caliber, but never had the heart to have it alterd.

Mine is a 375 Win, bought in the 80's for 169.95 on a closeout. I was a laid off 20 something Sheet Metal Worker at the time and had to sell a Super Blackhawk to get the funds to buy it. They had 2 left and I wish I could have snagged both of them. It has accounted for a number of Deer and I used it for my first Black Bear. As far as No. 1 wood goes, you have an alternative, Synthetic, www.mpistocks.com. CRASH87
