Looking for a smokeless load for a Pedersoli replica. Need a powder bulkier than Varget for sure. I get hangfires unless I position the powder. Rather not use filler if I can help it. I only use 405 grain bullets or heavier.

Try SR 4759, 28-30 gr, and a tuft of dacron (I know you don't want to) filler about the size of a golf ball uncompressed. I put a piece of toilet tissue about the size of a dime on the powder before adding the dacron just to keep the powder from migrating into the dacron. Bullet is an RCBS GC, about 415 gr.

Lymans 28th edition cast bullets reloading book has loading data for the 45 3 1/4". They recommend AA 5744 with no filler. I personally like the cleaner burning SR4759.

Default SR-4759

I use about 25-30 grains in my 458 behind the 520 lyman and the 450 Lee, I would bet either it or AA XMP-5744 would work but I have not tried the AA. The 4759 load is very mild and I'm sure it could be loaded to pressure levels compatible with your 45-3 1/4. It is so bulky that IMR puts 1/2 pound in the can that in other powders would be a full pound...

Thanks guys, gonna have to try some of these. Getting to chicken in my old age to intropolate data anymore. I remember data for the .45 2 1/10 and 4350 and 4831. Hate to be the first to try it in this rifle though.
