Default Hopkins & Allen 38 S&W Rifle

Found a little bitty H&A single shot at a gun show for $675.00. Guy claims it has never been shot. Barrel was proof marked 38 S&W. Any body got info on these?

Looks like the .22 & .32 Rf actions. Would be fun. Not powerful, but I like the .38 S & W. Have both a Colt and S & W hand guns in that cal.

I had two of these which I bought from a workmate for $50 each. He was selling his father-in-law's collection of old singlr shots and was more in a hurry to get rid of them than get top dollar. I gave the .32 RF to my son-in-law and kept the .22 RF for a long time. The .22 RF had a very smooth and tight action and a very smooth light trigger pull, but the barrel was severely pitted. I was think about new fancy stocks, a new barrel and I even bought an old looking scope to put on it. Eventually I decided that I could spend a $1,000 on geting the gun up to the quality of the nice little action but it wouldn't be worth what I put into it for anyone else and I didn't need another .22, so I sold it. I think they have a much nicer action that the Favorites.

I have one of these but it is stamped Merwin & Hulbert it is the same model as the H&A. M 922 meaning 22 rf caliber.
I was quite lucky finding it at a gun show late on the last day and the seller must have been ready to pick up and go home as he had put some of his guns in cases and it didn't even have a price on it .
I looked it over well and the bore was near perfect the wood has some small dings but not refinished and the metal good about 50 % of original finish, original sights so I asked the seller what his best price was and he said $ 125.00 so I was pleased and bought it without trying to negotiate any lower.
I consider it a boys rifle as it is very light and about the size of a Stevens Favorite but it is a true falling block and can hold up to hi speed 22 LR ammo and know of some were built in centerfire such as the 38 Colt the link that operates the falling block has 2 connection holes where you can remove a screw change the block hight from rimfire to centerfire.
They are a simple design without a lot of parts and were originally sold for about $ 5.00 and were offered in special order with quite a few options such as half round / half octagon barrel, full octagonal barrel , better sights, checkering , different calibers

jedman.

Still kickin
