Default Uberti 1885 45-70

Just ordered in a Uberti 1885 45-70. Anyone have one? Have a good 200+yd load recipe for range plinking?

Haven't found a whole lot about reloads specifically for them. I ordered some Starline brass, imr 4198, lazercast 405, and fed large rifle match primers. Hopefully turns out good for this rifle

You're dead on with what my .45-70s have liked. Starline brass, IMR 4198 and 405s. That combination has worked for me. from sub-sonic plinking loads to 1950 fps hunting loads. That's a beautiful rifle. Work it up slowly, find what it likes and enjoy it.

Keep both eyes open and make the first shot good.

I've got Shaver's sights on my Pedersoli Sharps. Love it.

What's the barrel twist on that rifle? Mine has a 1:18 and I have had fun with a 300g .458s over 34g of 4198. It was good on steel gongs out to 150 yards and very mild recoil. A fun round to shoot.

You only take one shot at a time, so don't waste it :cb2:

My Pedersoli shoots best with RCBS 405s over 25.5 grains of IMR4227. Not a screamer, but pleasant to shoot and sub-moa accurate. Would work great as a hunting load too.

I shoot 350gr Goulds HP's that I mold myself, with 15.0grns of Unique pistol powder, no issues and shoots better than I can at 100-200yds. I got this load from Cast Boolits.com, and was hesitant at first, but guys I trust on that board encouraged me, and I am glad I listened. I shoot 13 grs with a 405 Lyman I cast.
