Default Rossi Wizzard? 243 front sight holes?

I just bought a used Gunbroker Rossi 243. And while it has a big rail on the back for scope mounting, it also has a couple of little holes on the end of the barrel. Is this for future front sights, or was a front sight removed? I just don't know what these holes were, as far as an original configuration. I got it for $120 and it is in nice shape. I'm just not sure what to do with the extra holes on the front of the barrel. For $120 I might just fill them with locktite blue and call it done... I have 13 and 12 year olds that deer hunt. This is the 3rd 243 in the house. The other thing they use is a CVA Hunter 44. TY for any info!

Poor mans porting. For what you paid should be of no concern.

Probably was a front sight on there at one time - either factory or one an owner put on.

If it were me I'd just get some plug screws, rather than permanently filling in the holes.

The Wizard 243 came with front sights.

I'll find out what this one does tomorrow. My brother's daughter has shot many deer in his back yard with her Rossi 243. I've heard they are decent, but the 243 Rossi can have a hmmm too long of a chamber? So only cartridges with a very long length will shoot well. I checked 3 different rounds. My Remington Core-Lok is longest, Win Power Point is next, shortest is Federal Power Shok (all 100 grain). I'll try all 3 tomorrow, and maybe some Fusions.

As far as my missing front sight. I'd like to find an original to replace it with, but so far no luck. I have no idea how to measure the holes to find out what size filler screws it would need. For $120 I guess I shouldn't worry about it. I put a mis-priced Walmart $13 Tasco 3-9x40 Bucksight scope on it, and it looks decent. I'll do a short range report tomorrow. Will be having my 13 year old sight it in. Maybe try and teach him the 2 shot method if the first hole is on paper. Last year he took a huge doe with his Mossberg Patriot youth 243. They are a decent kids gun, even the included scope isn't terrible.

I could find out for myself if I did not have so many irons in the fire. I have a rossi with 4 barrels and have only shot the rifled 20 gauge barrel. After going through multiple saboted slugs I found acceptable accuracy and my nephew took a button buck at 40 plus yards with it. Of course I had nothing to do with it🤓.

Call Rossi and ask them if they can provide a sight, the Wizard was discontinued a few years ago, but they may still have parts. I have a couple Wizard accessory barrels the I experimented with on an H&R frame, Wizard barrels were touted as being interchangeable, but that wasn't my experience, the 30-06 barrel fit the frame fine, the 7.62x39 wasn't even close, so I suspect they had tolerance issues which may be the reason they were discontinued. I'd take the barrel to a hardware store and try metric machine screws to get the correct thread pitch, then get a metal front sight for it, the sights on my barrels are plastic.

Well I took it out today. Accuracy was very good with Federal and Winchester. I couldn't get a Rem Core Lok to fire with it, and had a few light strikes with the Winchester Power Point.. Then I used my google fu and found people having problems with light strikes when the rifle has a hammer extension. I'll try again without the extension. Whatever is wrong, it can't be too off. At least all the Federal Power Shok fired. I tried 2 Rem Core Lok, hit each one multiple times, but no bang. Had 2 out of 20 Winchester light strike. And the light strikes weren't that light. Left a dimple, but not quite enough. This looks interesting also. http://www.rossi-rifleman.com/viewtopic.php?f=44&t=2196

I like to see you are using different brands of ammo as that is what I do until I start loading my own.
