Default 30 Remington AR Who Else Has One

Picked up one today, neat AR. It came with two 10 round mags, would love to find a few 4 round mags.

I have one I got from Bud's gun shop a couple years or so ago. As I mentioned in your other post looking for magazines I picked up a large quantity of ammo and a die set when I got it. I tried to find brass but no luck on that so just bought up all the ammo I could afford.

It came with one 4 round magazine that if it were a .223 mag would be at least a ten round mag. Have you tried to load 10 rounds in the mags you have? I think a 10 round mag would be at least the size of a 20 round or larger .223 mag.

I still haven't gotten mine out to shoot it yet. Yeah I have other guns I've not yet gotten around to shooting also. Heck I just sold one rifle to a fellow here on GBO that I've never fired.

c products makes 5 round 762x39 AR mags that might work. If not just rob the follower out of one of your mags and put it in a ar15 mag and id bet it would work. Another thing that might be worth trying is lancer 300 bo 5 round mags. Go on line and search for converting magpul556 mags to 300 bo. Its just a matter of filing done a touch on a couple **** that the neck rides on in the mag. My guess is it would work just as well for the 30 rem. that way you could use your existing magpuls. Problem is there going to be some pretty long 5 rounders. If it were me the way I would attack it is to buy a lancer 5 round bo mag and see if it works.

The .458 Bushmaster mags work. I doubt the 7.62x39 will and the .300 BLK is same as the .223 and won't.

The round is based on the .284 Winchester case and is a true single stack in an AR15 mag. I bought a bunch of .458 Bushmaster followers off ebay and can convert any mag I want to for mine.

One of these days I need to actually take mine out and shoot it.

I didn't know it was that fat of a round. Probably what killed it. Mag capacity sells guns. Sure would make a sweet little 10 in braced pistol for deer hunting though.

My rifle and I think all of them Remington made has a 22" barrel. Most all the AR10 .308s I see are 16" barrels. When both rounds have those barrel lengths the ballistics of the two are nearly identical.

I think the round died because Remington abandoned it as soon as the made it. They didn't offer brass for reloaders, ammo selection was limited and not available other than via the internet. The idea of an AR15 with .308 ballistics appealed to me and I got one. But I stopped hunting about the time I got it and these days I don't do all that much shooting either so mine mostly just sits.

Mine is scoped and ready to sight in and I have either 600 or 800 rounds of factory ammo, can't remember which. I have dies and all that I need to load for it.

But you are right, folks who are attracted to ARs like magazine capacity and the fat 0.500" case is as large as the AR15 mag can hold so capacity is low. I do think it was a great idea but Remington just didn't follow thru and let it die effectively.

When it was announced, I hoped it would catch on as it would have been a great case for short cartridges in .25 and .35 calibers. If Remington had chambered a short bolt action weighing about 6 pounds for the 30 RAR or another caliber based on the case, it would have had a slightly better chance.

I had no interest in an AR that was heavy and more expensive than most other AR's on the market. Apparently not many others were interested either. If I had had a chance to purchase a thousand once fired brass at a good price within a year of it's announcement, I would have gladly bought it and started looking for an action to accept it.

Political Correctness is a doctrine, recently fostered by a delusional , illogical minority and promoted by a sick mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a piece of cr*p by the clean end!

Now, with special thanks to the Truman Museum and Harry himself, you and I finally have a full understanding of what "POLITICAL CORRECTNESS" really means.....
