Default Ontario SP 8 survival machete

I'm thinking of getting the SP8 to replace my axe on deeper woods camping /hunting to save some weight I will be useing for chopping and some splitting wood for my portable wood stove I have read good reviews on it .was just wondering if any of you guys have had one and what your thoughts are .also it isn't going to be my primary blade just a multi purpose

Each to his own, and it looks like a quality piece of equipment. My feelings are nothing can replace an axe or hatchet in the woods.

Looks like you'll save about 3/4 of a pound by going with that instead of a hatchet with about a 15" handle. For me it would be too much of a trade-off in capabilities to save less than a pound in weight.

But, I'm not the one who is going to be using it! Only important thing is if it fills YOUR needs.

I have a sp-10 in my pack. It is definitely a trade off over an axe. Canít have everything. I paid 30 bucks for mine many years ago.
