Help Identifying
1 Attachment(s)
I was metal detecting and found what I think is an old rimfire case. I'm not very familiar with them and hoped someone here might help me identify it. Here is picture of the head stamp. I drew it larger next to the case to see better. The headstamp is in the center of the case head. Sorry, I'm not much of an artist. Thanks;

Not enough information to comment. What caliber, side picture, any other data or information?

The case is crushed so dimensions are hard to get. The case mics out about .50 cal. So I would say in the .40, to .50 cal. Its about 1.2 in length but again its crushed so the measurement is a guess. Any idea on the headstamp? I looked at some reference pictures but couldn't find it.

There were several Civil War era rimfire cartridges in that size. I'm not familiar with the marking, but it makes me wonder if it could be an inside primed center fire? I'd look in Cartridges of the World.

I've been all over the web looking for info. What it appears to be is a 41 Swiss or in European terms, 10.4X38. Apparently they were very popular in the US in the late 1800s as surplus rifles. From what I have read, the cross in a circle headstamp indicates the cartridge was Swiss made. They were available into the 1960s. What do you think? Could that be it?
