I will be heading for Detroit and Windsor , Ontario the first week in November and while planning the route, I much, much, much, much prefer U.S. 12 over the freeway, I found that on the way I can stop at the sole surviving Henry's hamburger joint and the sole surviving Hot n' Now, SO I will do my best to stop at both.
There is also joint on 12 called Telaway that has a local version of White Castle style burgers and I will stop there also.
There is a Wahlburger close to the tunnel entrance but I will leave that for another time.


We are going to hit the casino on the lake in Indiana and then the casino in Windsor, both have positive comments on line but they say to stay away from ALL Ho'chunk casinos in Wisc.

Our local Ryans closed down also , I dont miss it , I could always count on a episode of diarrhea after eating there .

I miss the old fashioned McDonalds, back when they fried their frenchie fries in tallow. I actually liked their fries back then, and they went well with a big muck or a quarter pounder with cheese. They changed everything about the way they make their burgers and fries, and now the only thing I ever get at McDs is the occasional egg McMuffin and coffee.

Last summer a cafe in a very little dying town north of us was flooded bad and closed. It was owned and run by an extended Holderman Mennonite Family. They raised much of their own produce and raised their own catfish. On Friday evenings they would serve a traditional German Mennonite buffet along with a huge dessert table of at least 15 different pies, cakes and cookies continually coming fresh out of the oven. Only drawback was almost waiting times for a table to become available. He are a couple of pictures from the cafe when it was open.

I missed the Telaway, sadly, but I got to the last Hot n'Now and Henry's.

Hot n' Now olive burger are great as they were thirty years ago BUT I tried their Mushroom and Swiss.
If I never have another , not too soon, chocolate shakes though were large and gooood.

Henry's -- they used to be just as large as McDonalds sixty years ago and their basic burgers are still the same as they were sixty years ago.
They have those Hash Brown squares, very, very good better than their fries which are good.

Prices are still cheap too.

We ate at the buffet in the Caesar's Horseshoe Casino in Hammond , Ind., it was absolutely great.
I had fried Smelt, catfish, beef brisket, fried chicken, baked chicken, Orange chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy.
Fantastic and as we were there for the first time, they give you a deck of cards, not playing cards, with different deals on each card.
The Buffet card was two for one, so it only cost me 24 bucks and change.

At the Caesars Casino in Windsor, we ate at a Johnny Rocket's and had burgers, fantastic but best to get a single as the double I had was a bit bigger than need be.

I miss Boston Market restaurants. They were doing pretty good business selling amazingly good fast food but the chain went bust. For a few years after they closed in Oregon, the were still going in Washington. It's the fist time I really cared when a restaurant closed...
