Default Trucker food

Pilot is offering some really good fresh salads now. We really like them. And the sub sandwiches are really great.

Some of the truck stops offer mighty good eats at good prices. When I used to travel I ate at a lot of truckstops, if I had the time for a cooked meal.

I always had ring balogna , chocolate milk, string cheese, and those nasty little fruit pies in the truck. Eat and roll at the same time.

We have a Pilot here in town but sadly it is not more than just your basic self-serve gas station that has pumps for trucks because it is an area with a separate shopping /restaurant plaza including a Subway and McDonald's.
It is in an area that had what was one of three roads out of St. Cloud heading east but that road was cut off for the free way and even at that the area is amazingly different since the last time I drove out to the dead-end twenty years ago.
Used to get out there real often but I was surprised to calculate it has been five years since I did any shopping, including gasoline out there.

I have been to the big one in Iowa that is practically its own little shopping mall.

Ours is becoming a mini mall, it just keeps expanding. And a dollar general which will be selling produce.
Putting a hurt on Walmart. Thank goodness.

Truckers and RVs like it. Because they can park for free and get Wifi internet, and cable for 20 bucks a night.

Ah, ring bologna.

Off topic: as a teen, me and my Dad would eat ring bologna and crackers every night before bedtime.

On topic; I've eaten breakfast many times at the AT.

Talking

As a former trucker I have to laugh at people who don't know, talk about truck stops being a good place to eat. After all all the truckers stop there. Wonder if the fools who say that relize you (in my day) cn't park a 70 foot rig at just any old spot.

So truckers then & today are pretty much forced to eat at places with big parking lots. Isn't like you can just pull up to a curb then back out to go on the hiway.

I my self have slapped together a Jungle lunch of lunch meat between two slices of soft white bread, my days it was wonder bread.

I miss badly the closing of the sales barn restaurant here.
They were open once a week and served food till gone.
Last day they were open I pigged out , two beef commercials and a hamburger.
