Default Is good lard for sale?

I see highly refined lard from hormel for sale. Is any good lard available for sale at supermarkets? Where can i find good lard?

Got a locker nearby? You can get the lard without any preservative in it, works better for catfish bait.

Rendering can be done in a crock pot.

Thanks. Sounds like a do it yourself thing. What's a locker?

Probably a frozen food locker. Many butchers used to process farm killed pork, cut and wrap, and rent freezer locker space to people before everyone had a freezer.

Correct, in our area they kill and process farm animals and deer as well, interesting regional flavors were created for smoking and processing sausage and such.

I hear the ethnic Mexican stores lard doesn't have preservative.
Best wishes

This time of year itís tougher to get. Plenty of people want deer sausage, etc., mixed with pork. Wait a month or so and get on the phone and call a few butcher shops, explain what you want.

Generally speaking hogs arenít raised or marketed with lard in mind these days. But check around and youíll get what you need.
