Default 10-22 for Grandson

Thinking of getting a scoped 10-22 for my grandson. Which format should I get? Will be used for plinking, targets, and bushy tails.

The one I love is the 10-22 classic it has the real walnut checkered stock more like a rifle no barrel band and has the 22 inch barrel they list in my area for $325.00, to me they are a really nice looking rifle. I put a 3x9x40 Bushnell on mine and it looks and feels real nice.

For the uses you describe the plain old carbine version will work as good as any. Otherwise get the version he likes best, if he has a favorite.

Any model will work for his needs.
I had a stainless carbine and all I did to it was install a target hammer which dropped the pull weight from 8 pounds to three pounds.
The stock barrel was very accurate as are most Ruger barrels.

At the time I did mine, a new hammer cost about $30.

Years ago, we bought my youngest boy a 10-22. I had a medallion engraved with his name, whom it was from, and the date.
I routed out the stock in the shape of the medallion, and epoxied it into the stock.
He's 36 now, and will not use any other 22.

Only one I have left is my stainless take downs. But that's because one grandson got my deluxe and the other my standard model and the granddaughter got my 16 inch standard. I guess if pinned down my favorite has always been the checkered deluxe.

Depending on how old he is the synthetic stocked models are a little lighter and there are a million aftermarket stocks that he can choose from as he grows.
