Great job and thanks for posting your drawings. Just a suggestion of something that might give it a finishing touch is to add some black stenciled lettering on various surfaces to give it that military ordinance look.

something official looking like:

US Ordnance
Frankfort Arsenal

Lot 12345 Passed
CMDR TERRY C

Finally got around to making the flat crate, even though it was the original design and the tall crate came after.

It's the original length, 8" front and back panels instead of the 8" that I made the tall crate. I made that one longer because I thought it looked more in proportion with the added height.

I gives the appearance of being smaller overall, but width front-to-back is the same.

I came up a couple short on screws (they are easy to lose), the hinges are on but the hasp will have to wait until tomorrow.

The rope handles are 3/16" diameter and 6" long.

Those turned out great!

Those look great! That gives me an idea of what to do with the old explosives box I have been using for an ammo crate. The box is built almost exactly like your bigger box (with no handles and hinges).

I have an old wooden Hercules Gelamite box around here somewhere, I need to dig it out and take some pics.

I don't have a good picture of mine, but you can see in this screen grab from the video of the shoot I had the cannon at. Now, it's nowhere near as pretty as the boxes you have in your pics, but I think with some brass hinges and hasp, and some handles (plus a couple of chains to make sure it can't stay open on its own), it would be a pretty good functional ammo box.
