Default I wish they would stop calling these things "cannons"...

They did not build a cannon, they built a bomb.

It did what a bomb do . . .

Wisconsin men charged in homemade cannon death

I don't often bare my soul, it's ugly and tends to frighten people.

The big trouble about these explosive devices is that there is no reasonable SAFE distance from which to fire them. If you insist on lighting the fuse to one of these dangerous devices and you don't have suitable "cover", NOT concealment, but COVER from errant pieces of pipe, torn off end caps and the like, then you are an IDIOT!!! These should never be called CANNONS!!! They are homemade bombs and are highy illegal and extremely dangerous!

Thank you for pointing that out, Terry.

Kenneth Niemer told investigators that he brought the pipe to a party at the residence. He explained that he had manipulated it with a plug welded to the bottom. He described the device as a "cannon."

"We dumped shotgun powder in the tube. We lit it once and it just flared up. We did it again but this time we used some paper toweling and put it in the pipe with a stick. We all stood by the fence. (The victim) was standing by the side of the camper. When it went off, he landed on the ground," Niemer told investigators.

WLUK-TV reports the men were using a 4-foot-long steel pipe with a plug welded onto the bottom.

I sent that website a short email stating the device mentioned in their article was not a homemade cannon, it was a piece of water pipe. This is a homemade cannon:
