A few of the Nations like the Apache put they're kids through college. So they could come back and run the casinos. They are not poor or stupid by any means.

I agree. The native man has learned how to profit from the white man's greed. They will do well. The few Seminoles I have had the misfortune to encounter were still at war with the white, and may never learn. Just sayin' ...

Each of the 6 Iroquois nations in NY State have casinos of their own, the Senecas having 2. There are 6 nations, but most of the Mohawks moved to Canada following the Revolutionary war, since they were very much on the British side during that conflict.

The St Regis branch of the Mohawks do have a casino in NY State, however.

Sir William Johnson lived among the Mohawks before the revolution, was a personal friend of chief Joseph Brant, and was married to the chief's sister, Molly.

There is a Mohawk reservation at Brantford, Ontario, Canada.

Neither was welcomed in the Schoharie, you know. Brant set out to massacre as many of the settlers there as possible and the Mohawks under Johnson were about as vicious as any could be. After they attacked the Schoharie one of my ancestors mustered up at the middle fort and set out to meet them. They paid the price.

Mike;

The Mohawks, mostly moving under Joseph Brant and John Butler, swept up through the Sesquehanna in NY..Committing maasacres at Unadilla, Oneonta. Oswego, Cobleskill etc.

I believe it was after the battle at Oriskany, when Brant decided to head off to Canada.

Was it the Mohawks who overcame Ft Alden and massacred Cherry Valley? Is Schoharie consider to be in "Leatherstocking country"?

ironglow: I believe it was the Mohawks at Ft. Alden and the Cherry Valley. Schoharie County as well as Cherry Valley are Leatherstocking country.

Thanks Mike.. If only NY State could separate itself from the city. Outside the big cities, NY is beautiful, and has so much to offer. Yes, it can get cold and snowy, but the other seasons are beautiful!

Of course, many like their winter sports too.hunting, skiing, trapping snowmobiling etc.

Leatherstocking country is a beautiful vacation spot..a well kept secret..just like the Finger Lakes.

I agree, have been up there to build/repair a few Church's. Platsburgh, Champlain, Saranac Lake, Potsdam, and Poughkeepsie. Most of those areas look like North Georgia during the summertime.

If you could seceded from the liberal bastion of New York City, you would have a great state. Same goes for most of California save a few cities that drag down the whole state.

I so agree with you both. This state could grow incredibly just without the tax burden of nyc. Send this greasy governator packin' back to liberulville, stop penalizing the Native Americans, more teachers, more nurses and doctors, set our own standards for governance and culture, more armed citizens, especially more armed women; formulation of posses and militia under each Sheriff, more turkey shoots after church on Sundays and keep the churches the hay outta politics, teach the Constitution, law, respect, acceptable behaviours and courtesy, then go 'techie'..... Just sayin'!
