i really like the look of pewter grips on a single action revolver.
but i got to thinking, if they had any historical accuracy, if in the 1880's were there any single action with pewter grips on them. or is that just another hollywood invention ?

Pewter as a material man has worked and made things from has been around since the bronze age.
I just was wondering, for any historical accuracy if colt sa's wore pewter grips.
I've never found any evidence to suggest they did.
But this thread died the day I made it, lol.

I have seen pics of older very fancy flint locks (French?) that looked like pewter or silver grips. Sort of a "pimp"gun look. In the old days a New Orleans "dandy" might have packed them.

Just a smooth pewter grip on a weathered Josey Wales 1851 would look cool.

Some of these are old.

If it has to be historical accuracy the art work would be a factor.

I am not sure if the factory ever offered them, but I do recall seeing vintage pictures of Colt SAA's with pewter / stirling silver grips. I believe they were popular along the Mexican border, and remember some of them being referred to as "Tiffany" grips. They tend to be heavy, and do change the balance of the gun. I think they look pretty cool. Here is a cool link:

I saw them along the Mexican border while I lived there. I have a pair I bought in old Mexico that fits a S&W model 10. They were available for SAA colts as well.
