If we are restricted to hand guns then I would have a hard time choosing but it would be a single six Ruger 22/ 22mag convertable now if it were long guns then I would say the Ruger number 1 light sporter in 7x57mR or maybe a Savage 24 in 30-30 over a 20 gage But guns are like Doritos you cant have just one.
Well...i play this mind game often. I suppose I have kind of a cheat on it though. The gun would be a 1911. The cheat is that I have a Nelson .22 conversion; I also reload for .45 Super in addition to .45 ACP and I have a drop in barrel for .400 CorBon.
Now if we have gone to just one gun and a switch barrel system it would be a TCR 83 with 15 barrels that I have Hornet up to 47-70
most calibers well covered.
These "one gun" threads always end up the same! So far no one has chosen just ONE gun in ONE caliber! Now, it could be argued the OP didn't specify just one caliber or gauge, but choosing a multi caliber/gauge platform COULD be called cheating!
Don't get me wrong - I'm not criticizing anyone for "fudging" on their pick. I enjoy reading these threads and people have some interesting choices. Of course everyone's choice depends largely on where they live and what use(s) they have for their gun(s).
My choice if limited to one gun: A 12 gauge pump with a 22"-24" vent rib barrel with screw in choke tubes, and a set of clamp on open sights. Covers everything from sparrows to Brown bears and home defense. It's not the gun I like best, but is (in my opinion) the most logical choice for only one gun.
Spruce I think you nailed it when we have a post what one gun only we are off and running, I like this one but then again I think I could do better where I hunt if I had this one but then again I never could choose only one. I think the only one applies to a wife which is to be for life and even then some cant make up their mind glad I did on that one. SMILE.
My choice would be a .22 rifle.
Of the four deer that I've killed in my life, I could have gotten them all with a .22 in the ear hole.
And 500 rounds takes up the same space as 25 shotgun shells.
I would go this direction...for the same reasons. I would pick a Ruger 10/22 ! But I reserve the right to amend that, since I am becoming very fond of my new TCR22.... a 10/22 clone with many advanced modifications !
Well I started this thread in the handgun section. Thinking one handgun. If I could have a long gun too it would be my drilling. A krieghoff 16x16 over a 7x57R. I have 22lr and 22mag inserts for the right barrel and a zeiss scope in claw mounts. It would be my hunting gun.
Byron when we start a thread it is off to the races I don't remember ever seeing one that stayed on topic for long is that what they mean by Highjacked thread but at least they keep rolling along for a while instead of dying with a couple of post and we learn what other members like. Maybe when we do post we should say stay on topic one and one only please.
One handgun ... per the OP. Hard to argue with the Ruger, if they made a SS bisley single ten with a .222 bore 5.5" barrel and FO sights, I'd order it today.
I didn't even look ate the category, so I'll back and say that of my current handguns it would be my bounty hunter 22/22mag.
If buying a new one it would be a stainless single six, I just can't wrap my mind around a single 10.
I think a lot of us are the same look at recent discussions and start typing so back to the original topic I would say a Ruger single six convertible 22/22mag. That will kill about anything we are more than likely to get a chance to shoot at.
Me too. I didn't look at the category either, going to a handgun, I've never owned a Ruger .22 revolver, so I'd have to say I'd go with a Colt Officers Model because that is the finest and most accurate handgun I've ever owned. I'd go for the .22 LR.
Going with the idea of a single gun with a single cartridge....i am torn between two pistols. I have a KelTec PMR 30 that is easy to carry, shoots well, has been reliable. The ammo is available and .22 Magnums do not take up much space.
I do, however, like the ability to reload my ammo and not be so tied to buying at a store.
My favorite pistol for reloading is not the 1911 to which I referred earlier but a Ruger SBH in .44 Magnum.
Quite different than the .22 Magnum.
So....today..right now....I'd grab the PMR 30.

S&W govornor. 410 , 45 acp and 45 Colt. It could do most things , maybe not as well as another gun but more things.
I really like a 22 but it is a poor choice for SD if something else is available.
My money says he will say Drilling :tango_face_plain: and I would too if I had one
