A heartbroken mother of an addicted son, posts pictures of his addiction. I can hardly imagine how she handles this... It must tear the entire family to pieces!
That is why I figure that no punishment/deterrence is too severe for the drug pusher.
Many sad facts come to mind from these pictures, not the least of which is the AFTER opioid boy believes (in his warped world) that his mind and body are OK. He hasn't hit rock bottom, or if he has, he has started to dig.
My younger brother was the same...until his death from opioids two months ago at age 55. Tim never quit digging, not once, even though we as a family intervened on many occasions. It is impossible to help someone who does not want help.
Most of the family is getting together this coming weekend in a memorial for Tim and to support his daughter through this tough time. My sister asked me 6 weeks ago if I had a humorous anecdote, which I could share with her about Tim. I have wracked my brain and can think of NONE. Not ONE in his last 40-YEARS on this planet. That pisses me off.
My older brother won't even go to the Memorial. That pisses me off too. So "Christian" of him to think of his younger brother and the remaining family in so "loving" a fashion. And it is not because he is distraught. His Deep State Democrat mind is warped too...(imho).
Sorry to hear of your loss LO ! I suppose that with a deep addiction, you actually 'lost" him some years ago. So sad that he stayed in denial..and I have little sympathy for his suppliers, whoever they were.
Tough part is that your older brother won't pay last respects, but he must realize that an addicted person will often act irrationally.
Drug users become drug pushers when one's supply isn't their "thing". Thievery and burglary are prevalent "careers" then disposal of ill gotten gains to Pawn Brokers (who are getting rich), the Black Market, and whole "under belly" of society.
Drug addicts suck the life out of all those around them.
That kid chose to be on opioids that he was getting from a street pusher to get high. I had no choose in
the matter, I even refused to take them according to my doctors orders. In my case I found the Soma
to be doing much better job of controlling the pain. Without all the side effects associated with the
Tramadol.
I told my doctor that so she put me on the Soma instead of any opipiods. Down the toilet with the opioids
The opioids only made me sick to my stomach. No highs or euphoria, just a really bad case of barfing which
wasn't helping anything. I'm doing much better now and I've even cut back on the Soma.
Now a couple of ibuprofens and I'm good to go. So my condition went from chronic, to only being acute.
Meaning I was healing up.
No real junkie is going to want any Soma lol. The internet says you can get addicted to it but, that's rare.
Plus there is no withdraws if you stop using it. The DEA puts it at a class D pain killer.
Drug addicts suck the life out of all those around them.
From what I understand, this is apparently one common factor among addicts..that their drugs become the focal center of their lives, more important to hem than brothers, sisters, spouses or children. So they will do ANYTHING to get their 'fix"..
So will Meth heads, the problem isn't only the opioids. And it's hard to tell which one is the worst.
I watched that series about the county lock up in Oregon. The Deputy's were saying the Meth addicts
were the worse, the most dangerous. A lot of them are also coming down with alcohol withdraws,
on top of the Meth.
i've known a bunch of different ones.
shooters, sniffers, puffers, etc.
none of them got "accidentally" hooked.
none of them were forced to take it.
they all liked getting high.
the ex-con methheads over here still
take their dope and are able to come up
with money for smokes and tattoos and
booze, but can't seem to pay their bills
(grandma does that) and none have a
decent car to drive, or a pot to p*ss in.
never will 'till the day they die.
(i'll add that a couple of the gals used to be
fairly attractive, but all look like overdone
dry roasted h*ll now with all those ugly *ss
tattoos and their skeletal haggard looks)
Agreed!
Drug company's produce the drugs, doctors prescribe the drugs, but nobody makes the dope heads, swallow, smoke, or shoot the drugs.
They do it cause they want to.
just me- the times i've broken bones, had
surgeries, etc. and similar extremely painful
things going on, i was dadgum glad to have
fairly inexpensive opioid pain relievers at my
disposal. they work great when used as intended
and don't drain your bank account.
Yes sir! It should also apply to big drug producers and even doctors that write scrips for people who don't really need them. there as much of a drug dealer as a guy on the street in NYC. The stuff they sell and precribe is no different the heroin and in some cases like fentanyl is even more powerful. A 130 people die EVERY DAY in this country from prescription opiates and that number is growing.
I find it comical that companies that produced asbestos have to pay settlements and the big drug companies cant be touched by people that have had kids die from opiates. Biggest drug cartels in the world can do it legally. The government will subsidize them to research new drugs for aids but could care less about pain meds. I just cant believe they cant come up with a pain blocker that isn't addictive and doesn't tear up your body. But then the big drug producers have no incentive to do it and probably love the fact there drugs are addictive. Good for sales. Its mainly a middle class white problem so they just don't care. Same with cancer. Id bet if only gay people or black people got cancer there would have been a cure for it 10 years ago.
Lloyd they already have a few pain killers that are like you described. A new generation of steroids. Non addictive and they don't tear up your body. Gabapentin is just one of them, but a dose of that is 600mg.
Horse pills, so they aren't real popular with patients. They are in a class called Neurotin, which works
directly on nerves.
With my condition Lloyd there isn't anything to operate on, just ride it out. Out of 60 Tramadols prescribed I've now only taken five in a two month period. All they did was upset my stomach, barfed em right back up. They didn't do squat for any pain, only one drug did. My Doctor said that some people are just like that.
Ive been diagnosed as being allergic to opioids anyway.
I know theres people that need special consideration. I have two friends that absolutely couldn't function without opiates. Thing is though NO doctor has tried to take them away from them because they know they need them. No doctor is going to throw someone out in the street if he knows hes suffering from terrible chronic pain. But today he has to be convinced theres no other alternative. Problem is you have people that have pain levels like mine that used to be on them. People who think they should live there lives without even an ache or pain that think they should be medicated for everything. Im in some level of pain 24 hours a day. But it isn't the take your breath away pain and unlike my buddys if I don't take my opiates im not incapable of even getting out of bed and am even in extream pain in bed. The kind of pain that takes your breath away. I know that pain because ive been there.
If I was at that level all the time id be at my doctors office and he would find a way to get me relief. I think most of those crying that they got cut off don't really need it. Same guys on here that are the ones complaining manage to sit and tap on keys of the computer for hours, make it out to go shooting hunting and fishing. There sure not bed ridden. It goes back to my opinion on med pot. Ive smoked it. If you honestly think it relieves pain then you DONT HAVE REAL PAIN. If anything its going to have you stoned sitting in your chair when you should be UP AND MOVING. I don't recall ever being told by a doctor to sit in my recliner and eat doritos and ice cream for therapy!! If you want to get stoned that's your call not mine but give me a break because im not buying you do it for pain relief. Bottom line is ive yet to meet a single person that got cut off that really couldn't get by without them. For one thing if your really in that much pain your not going to be here even discussing it.
Its kind of like a few years ago. I saw where disabled people in Michigan could get permits to hunt and shoot out of a vehicle. Im considered a 100 percent disabled so I figured id apply for the permit. I sent it in on line and about a week later the local game warden called me and said he was coming over to interview me. Couple hours later there was a knock on the door. I got up and answered it and it was the dnr officer. First words out of this mouth were "YOU DONT QUALIFY" I said why. He said because you got up out of your chair and walked to the door and I don't even see sweat running down your face from the pain and I looked in your truck in the driveway and theres no handicapped devices in it. So you can drive your truck up to a deer blind get out and go in the blind and hunt. We both had a little laugh and he left. I knew he had me.
Argent you like me are the fortunate ones. Those drugs make us feel worse and I personaly cant stand them. Others aren't so lucky. More often then the way we react to them people find them very pleasurable. Some get addicted on the first bottle of them the doctor gives them. By the time there healed from what the doctor prescribed them for they have a much bigger problem then that original booboo. In fact there lives or someone elses are ruined because of them. Show me ONE person that has been on opiates long term (say over a year) that hasn't drove on them or went to work on them. I will admit I did both. If your single and working YOU DID TOO. You were selfish enough to risk hurting someone else. THAT IS WHY they are clamping down on prescribing them. Because people don't sit home when they take them they take them so they don't have to sit at home. Because contrary to the lies some tell themselves YOU can and probably will become addict and eventfully it will hurt someone other then you. Opiates don't care how smart you think you are. Or whether your a dirt bag in a trailer park or own a penthouse on park avenue.
Beer can become addictive, if it's abused and it's readily available. The bottom line is that it's still up to the user. Is it a physical, or a mental addiction like weed is. Are there physical withdraw symptoms from weed,
or just a mental desire to get high? Gabbie will not get you high, so there must be a differant reason.
Gabbie on the street is mixed with other substances so that it will get you high.
TM7, the yellow capsules with black stripes on them are addictive, they are laced with Codeine so they
Will get you high. The big white pills will not, but you can OD on them by abusing them. Junkies like the
yellow ones. Heck, you can OD on alcohol, a lot of people do.
My entire close family is medical, and I've asked them about this before. Just because you are on pain
meds for awhile, doesn't mean your addicted or a junkie. That's a myth, and I've seen where people
who once thought that way get injured. Then they were begging for them.
. I am not entirely familiar with those drug forms or addiction, since it has not been a experience with either my immediate or extended family, but doesn't addiction depend upon whether one is of an addictive personality?
Doesn't the street sales of such junk, depend heavily upon an already addicted clientelle ?

I believe so, any real need results from a debilitating pain that is starting to effect the rest of the body's
health from healing. That's when it should be used, not because you hit your thumb with a hammer.
I didn't like being on them, but. They did give me a break so I could get better.
.
I am pleased that such meds helped you through your painful episodes.
I am not in favor in any way, with Marijuana, but if they can extract valuable medications from that plant, while leaving the goofy, harmful stuff behind, I would be in favor of utilizing the plant.
I tried some of Cali medical stuff my sister had for her back pain,it really sucked. She hated it also.
She said it's only another excuse to get stoned.
Thank you IG, they did help a lot. And I was never high. Rarest blood type I guess, or something like that.
AB-negative. Me and my little sister. We accually have a medical alert card.
Well, just don't be lulled into believing GABA drugs are entirely safe and nonaddicting _ _ they said the same thing about oxycotin! Once addicted to Gabbies its as hard to kick as benzodiazepines. You will need medical help to kick. So use responsibly.
Meanwhile, since nowadays doctors are writing Gabby presriptions like candy chits, some areas of the country are now seeing Gabby abuse exceeding Benzo
abuse.
Ugly face of addiction? Been to San Fran lately? Wow! The ugly faces of addiction are everywhere there.
And guess what! I saw something in San Fran that I saw in NYC long ago when crime was rampant and before Giuliani fixed the place. There were bums laying around all over the place in New York City. I watched two young office-worker type women chatting as they walked and in unison, without breaking their stride, stepped right over a sleeping (or dead?) bum. They walked over him like he was an inconsequential crack in the sidewalk. I saw that same kind of thing happen in San Fran lately.
I may have missed some posts that may have touched on the problem with Dr.s over prescribing but I think nationwide that is coming under control. It seems a lot of posters here may be unaware of several state and maybe Fed court cases that have come down hard on drug makers like Purdue Pharma and ?? Johnson & Johnson ?? for their part in pushing addictive drugs to doctors at the public. I'm glad to see it. They need to pay. But I've also seen news articles where member of the family who own (ed) Purdue were squirreling money into off shore accounts and other money hiding. But I think some agencies are going after that too. And by the way Purdue is in the process of declaring bankruptcy. So while it took way too long some consequences are coming to bear. Sadly I think the US Govt and FDA share responsibilty. FDA should have been on top of this 15-20 years ago.
A fascinating account that sums up a lot of how the opiod problem developed is in the book Dreamland by Sam Quinones. He really lays it out and a lot of the recent court cases and investigations support (maybe guided by?) his extensive research. Really worth reading it. I sent copies to our senators and local house representative. https://www.amazon.com/Dreamland-True-Americas-Opiate-Epidemic/dp/1511336404
On a personal note I'm struggling w a 21 yr son who flirts with a meth and cocaine problem. He made $10,000 in 6 weeks of commercial salmon fishing this summer and blew nearly all of it in 3 weeks! Luckily he let us hold back enough to keep the IRS off his back. He went from a a solid 180 to about 160 lbs, wouldn't eat acted really strange and his face sank to hollow cheeks and twitching. He sold off a snowmobile and other stuff that was dear to him to guys nobody in town knew. The only thing that seems to have manged the problem is he's totally broke, blew his good reputation so nobody in town will hire him. Remote Alaska gets hard in the fall -finally he came home cold and cying when nobody would give him a place to stay - all his "good Friends" disappeared when his money was gone. I locked him out until he agreed that I make the rules at my house and if he breaks them he's out on the cold ground instantly. So far he hasn't broken the rules. But its like his brain was totaly unwired. Its been a very unpleasant fall as I turned 65. I sleep w a can of bear spray by my bed, sometimes a gun, block the door with a folding chair cause I sleep hard. Nearly got in a fight w a big 30 yr old trying to find my son then learned the guy is fighting a murder charge. All because of my own kid thinking he was cool and could party.
From what I have experienced and learned meth rearranges the brain and it doesn't come back, even after leaving it behind, and very few do leave it behind.
Only G-d can restore and heal this.
Best wishes friend
My heart goes out to you Dand, the pain must be great ! Many years ago, my firstborn son, a youth of 17, very high intellect and a superb athlete, was severely injured when he crashed my truck.
It fell to me to do one of the most difficult things in my life...to tell him he was a parapalegic and would never walk again. He lived or 10 more years.
I had by then, lost brothers, uncles & aunts, grandparents and a parent... but nothing quite matches losing a child..they are supposed to bury us !
Surely, this loss for you, must be very similar.. I am sorry..
My heart goes out to both of you and all who are experiencing loss.
