Getting a early start on fall mushrooms here this year. Had some rain a week ago and came across a bunch of Lobster Mushrooms. At least a month earlier here then I usually fine them. I love them sauteed in butter with salt and pepper.
I've not had lobster mushrooms, but am looking forward to hen of the woods coming in. Was a great season last year and I probably dried about 15 pounds of them. Year before it was so dry I couldn't find a one.
Found this hen of woods last week, was about 18 lbs. Fried up some fresh and dried the rest, have 2 gallon ziplocks of dried to add to stews and gravies and such. dam-n good and easy to find, just look under live or dead oak trees.
I'd love to find some chanterelles! I believe they are around here at least somewhat, but I've never found them. I see you are from Idaho, my brother is buying a cattle ranch in Midvale. I think he is heading out there in the next couple month or so.
I have a daughter who lives in McCall. That's not too far from Midvale. I live quite a ways north, about 80 miles from the Canadian line.
