I wouldn't tell anyone else not to buy the SA-20 (or SA-28) - mine worked flawlessly. Just saying my experience with their customer service was enough for ME to purchase elsewhere - your results may vary!

From what I've read and heard this design (actually a copy of an older Beretta design) seems to work good no matter whose name is on it.
My late father in-law had a pretty bad experience with the last Mossberg he ever owned. To be honest, his gripes and complaints with Mossberg was enough to keep me away from them. I've never had bad luck out of my Remingtons, but for the price, the Tristar has my attention.

spruce Yeah, the Weatherby is a bit more, probably because the finish is a bit better.

Hudge Spruce,

I'll look into the Weatherby SA-08 as well. I just found out yesterday that it's the same shotgun as well. Right now I can get the Tristar for about $200 less than the Weatherby, hence the reason I asked about it. I have plenty of time before I buy though so I will continue to internet shop and look for some reviews hopefully. Thanks for the help and sorry about this issue you had with Mossberg.

spruce Don't have any experience with the Tristar, but as you say the two are very similar (in fact probably almost identical).

I had a Mossberg SA-20 and it worked just fine, and I have read a lot of good reviews on them. Personally I'm not planning on buying another Mossberg simply because I'm not happy with their customer service. I bought the youth model SA-20 (to get the shorter barrel) and figured I'd just buy an adult buttstock from Mossberg. WRONG - they wouldn't sell me one! So I ended up selling it for a loss to someone who wanted the youth model.

If I was doing it over again I'd buy the Weatherby SA-08 which is essentially the same, and I understand WEatherby will sell parts for it.

I had no complaints on the gun itself, it worked great.

Graybeard No personal experience with either but have seen good reviews on the Tristar.

Tristar Viper G2 or Mossber SA28

Just wondering if anyone has any experience with either of these shotguns. In reality, they are pretty much the same gun both made in Turkey. I am looking for a 28 gauge to grouse and ptarmigan hunt with this fall, and want a 28 gauge. For the price of these, they are both very reasonable, just wondering if anyone has real world experience with them.
