arky65 Update on my k31. Installed BadAce scope mount and an old Leupold VARIXIII 3.5-10. End results was several, 100yard 5 shot groups in one ragged hole. Not bad for a 82 year old rifle. When it cools off I will try 200 -300 yards.

I'm, really liking this old rifle. It is fuggly but it shoots. My try some hunting loads, for doe culling this fall.

geezerbiker I got my K31 about 15 years ago when they were on sale for $99. Grafs always listed PPU brass for them but it took a long while for it to get back in stock. I started with a bag of 100 and got another 100 a few years down the road.

I only shoot cast bullets from mine. I don't want to take a beating from that steel butt plate so I keep the recoil rather mild...

Mine was made in the late 1940s as I recall. The tag under the butt plate said it was issued in the French speaking part of Switzerland to a construction engineer...

Darkgael 1903 vs K31. I have never benched the two together, Perhaps I will this weekend. Years ago I fired my first ever MOA group (five shots at 100 yards, benched) with a 1903 using the ladder sight; the load was 53 grains of IMR 4831 and a 165 grain Remington PSP.
I use the same load with Graf's brass in the K31. The K31 has a scope on it, maybe that will make the shooting a bit easier.
Hope that I get the time to do it.

RaySendero Yes my bullet of choice for my rifle was and is the 180 SGKs.
Early on I went with the 165 SGK thinking at that short 2.925" COL,
I would get better performance by "saving" some case capacity with the 165.
Latter I returned to the 180 and have been happy with its performance.

4350 reloading powders will do a good job especially with the lighter bullets. With heavy bullets it will work, but there are better choices. With a couple of the larger surplus rounds such as the 7.5 X 55 Swiss and the 7.62 X 54 Russian 4350 is a good choice with the heavier bullets

PS: The Swede M96 is accurate. I always wondered how the 1903A3 would do vs the Swiss K31.

my 308 shoots tight also also why the barrel is orginal 306/307 and 308 bullets fits a little more tigher in the rifling
