cwlongshot The SPEER 180 is good but as the 180 XTP is on the fragile side that Speer is on the tough side and if vel drop below 1800 ish fps its not gonna open up without larger resistance in its path.

gunauthor Anybody try Speer's 35 caliber 180 grain bullet in a 357 Max? I just got a box and haven't had the chance to go testing. It looks to be more aerodynamic than a flat point.

i did, my rifle wouldn't throw em well at all, and i got some pretty bad copper fouling. i did not shoot any at a deer, i wouldn't dare hunt with such an inaccurate combination.
having said that, all rifles are different, maybe yours will stack um in. at 20 ya could try it.

10-4. Easy fix, don't shoot one at less than 100 yards , it should be slowing down enough by then.

jedman My take on the Hornady 180 gr. XTP-HP it is not a good deer bullet for near maximum loads in the 357 max. It is to fragile and is really designed as a pistol bullet. I know many have killed deer with them just like the 240 gr. 44 cal. XTP-HP but I have seen them blow up and not penetrate more than once or twice.
Just my 2 cents on that bullet choice for deer.
