I do not like the odor of Eezox so I try to use it outdoors when I can. Barricade is excellent also and I use that, but more on the outside of guns than in the barrel, has better smell but just as toxic or more than Eezox. I use a moose milk with Ballistol as a patched ball dry lube for my flintlock.

Didn't know they made a 17 HMR in a traditional muzzleloader format...

The Old Man I'm hearing of more and more anti-rust remedies as time goes on. bigblock 455's Frontier is a brand new one on me, but that test for over a year is, well, very impressive long term protection! I'm really glad you brought that one to our attention.

buckskin, thanks for letting me know your experiences with Barricade and Eezox. Really amazing stuff, all three of them! As for the "17 HMR traditional muzzleloader", I got a kick out of that one. That rifle was one of several moderns that I hunt with in various seasons, and I brought it up as my findings of Barricade performing as hoped across the muzzleloader/modern spectrum. Just an FYI:
I discovered that Hoppes Elite Gun Cleaner applied with a cleaning patch and given a half hour dwell time does a pretty good job of eliminating copper fouling. Several dri patches to clear it from the bore before the Barricade and it's all good.

Thank you both gentlemen for sharing those products which you found so effective!

The Old Man My curiousity is sort of up with Eezox, has a lot going for it. Definately will keep an eye open for a sample to try out. Nothing succeeds like sucess!

As for the fluid film, I really don't use much in the way of black powder substitutes, except in the T/C Thunderhawk we have. It LOVES Pyrodex, but the barrel is stainless steel, and I've never had an issue with it. Nat Lube Bore butter has so far ben all we needed for it. I will keep the information in mind and will pass kit along if that situation arrises! Thank you!

stringofpoloponies for black powder substitutes i use a natural based lanolin spray called Fluid Film.use to be hard to find but now Lowes and Autozone have it. works on patches sticks to metal and doesnt dry out for months. for my BlackHorn 209 eatin muzzys i use CLP or FP-10. i like that they work as an all in one cleaner and lube.too many good products out there today.

quickdtoo I've never noticed an issue with first shot accuracy, Eezox dries after application as long as it's applied correctly, so it isn't wet like other oils, doesn't have to be wiped out before shooting, so it's always there to protect as well.

The Old Man quickdtoo, I've seen a few of those tests before, and everytime I marvel at the effectivness of that Eezox. Truely an amazing protectant. It was mentioned in the thread I put up by a few guys, but I had some difficulty getting some in my area. I also remember hearing about some sort of toxicity associated with it, but was unable to confirm or deny it.

The big thing for me concerning Barricade is not only the way it prevents rust so effiviently, but allowed for cold, clean bore, first shot accuracy with no extra steps necesary. That was something that I hadn't managed before. Does the Eezox afford you the same first shot accuracy? Never having had any to try I never had the oppurtunity to learn about it.

As the saying goes, "If it ain't broke don't fix it!", and I'm certainly not suggesting anyone leave a method that works for him/her! Thanks for the input about Eezox, it could be just the thing soomeone having a difficult time with preventing bore corrosion is looking for!

quickdtoo I've collected these corrosion tests over the years, there's some pretty good stuff out there, but I've been using Eezox for about 30yrs, never been disappointed with it in any gun, muzzleloader or firearm.
