From the info I can find, Aguila was actually
working on the .17 rimfire before Hornady was.
There was some kind of problem at one of their plants
and the .17 cal. was shelved for a while.
I will venture to say that the Aguila ammo will be substantially
less expensive than the Hornady is, which will make
it attractive to a lot of folks who just want something Different.
There was a full page Ad on the .17 Aguila/High Standard combo
in the Shotgun News a couple of issues back,
It Should be an interesting Handgun.
You have to remember that they are both just
5mm Remington Rimfire Magnum wanna' bee's anyway!!!
Someone needs to take the hint and bring it back to production!!!!!

2 cts worth!

I think once a gun or ammo fails Companies are reluctant to bring it back figureing if it did not go the first time it will not now. So I doubt the 5mm will come back but then you never know. I have read that aquila has been promising this round for over 3 years from what I have seen on other sites and some guys have ordered ammo with none in sight so I hope that the round comes available for you who want it. Myself I will stay with the 22 lr and magnum but for you that enjoy the 17's good luck I did see CCI is starting to come out with the HMR ammo now. Jim

17 AGUILA

I think that you might be talking about the 17 HS which stands
for High Standard. Aguila is making a 22 LR necked down to 17
cal for High Standard who is going to make barrels for their pistols.
I don't know about rifles and/or whole pistols. According to Aguila,
the ammo will appear in May of this year. Let's wait and see what happens.

The 17 Aguila and the 17 High Standard are the same cartridge. It is the High Standard chamber that is different. Sort of like a standard 22LR chamber vs. the Bentz chamber.
