I recently saw a .17 HMR wheelgun. I believe that it was one of the Taurus Tracker models.

Has anyone tested one of these little guys out yet.

What kind of ballistics can I expect out of a 6.5 inch barrel?

I use my .22 WMR wheelgun for fun and inexpensive target shooting so I thouhgt that this may be another nice toy to have :-D

17HMR

I saw an article that mentioned one of those, showed a 17 cylinder beside a 45 cylinder. Boy was that a comparison. It probably would be fun to play with, but it wouldn't be cheap. Those little 17s are pricey. I have one in a 14' contender and it is pretty neat.KN

17 hmr tracker

I almost traded in my 22lr tracker for a 17 hmr tracker.

Could not come up with a good use for this gun! It will not be nearly as accurate as a rifle or encore/contender. Ammo is $9.00 for 50 if you shop around. Compare to .89 for 50 22lr it is not a wise swap.

I nearly did it anyway. Does sound like a lot of fun. Maybe they will rent it for a weekend?

If you get this gun post your opinion of it.

Good luck.

Definitly post your results.

I will probably have to wait for the 17. Just bought a Ruger super red hawk in 44 mag, will need to get set for reloading and work up a few loads before I consider the 17 taurus.

**** luck!

.17 HMR performance

I have only shot one crow with mine so far so that is not enough to do an accurate comparision. It had NO entrance wound (visible) and a half-dollar sized exit wound. I think if you are expecting a dramatic wound like a center-fire .22 you will be disapointed. It is what it is.

can't wait to try it

I have a taurus tracker in .17 on layaway.

From what I have read about it, accuracy is less than 1.5 inch groups at 100 yards scoped and bagged. Velocity is 2000 fps plus. These are pretty impressive numbers for a revolver!

I can't wait to try it out on squirrels! Head shots only of course. I suspect it'll made a decent ground hog gun too.
