Over the years I've carried a number of 10mm handguns. Really liked them but then old Arther set in my right hand and they became more than I could endure to shoot.
But the lust for a new 10mm in the 1911 platform has returned. I had in the past several delta elets and a Kimber stainless target but I really don't know what's available in today's market. Any ideas?
Pastorp: youhave the same run in 1911s in 10mm as you did a few years back but with a few more manufacturers adding them to their lines. None the less, they are 1911s in 10mm, little or no different than what you have already had.
There are however other manufacturers: EAA has a Witness in 10mm, as does Glock and I understand they are fairly easy to shoot, not quite so much like the 1911 which can really rock you.
Beyond these offerings however, I don't know what else there may be. Just about anything else would have to be some sort of a take-off on what is already out there, system-wise.
I don't know how you would fare with a revolver but I think the 10mm offerings from S&W may be in the larger heavier frame (L or N) which may make it a bit easier to shoot. Hope this helps and good luck.
I also like the 10mm. I have four of them. Two Deltas one is a gold cup STS. Then two glocks. I want one more as my old G20 is now a mech tech carbine. Last is a G29 I picked up over the winter.
The Glocks are easier to shoot and handle full house loads better. Not to mention more in the magazine. Even the G29 has one more round in its mag.
I have it pretty bad in my left hand. So will not be far behind you. But knock wood my right is good.
Try the Witness.I have a bunch of them I prefer the CZ clone pistols to almost all others. You might also look around for a Star Megastar in 10MM. A fabulous pistol which really handles the round well. Alas , they are rather scarce tho. I love mine.
For some reason my glock 20 became unbearable to shoot. The wide grip hurt my hand between the thumb & first finger. A slimmer grip is better but I'm not sure about the 10 mm. I'll see how I do with this Ruger 1911 slim grip in 45 acp.
a nice cushy glove perhaps? I know taking a little tumeric every day helps cut out that
inflammation, keeps us shooting longer.
You do very well, read about the great hog invasion that is being turned back
at your house. Great shooting, you "spotter" sounds awesome.
Blessings
Buy a Para-ord p16-40 and order a 10mm barrel for it. Been carrying one of these hunting for about 15 years now and love it. 16 rounds of 10mm is just plain fun. Oh, don't forget you may need to upgrade to a 22 or 23 lb recoil spring. Those little recoil buffers that go on the guide rod are nice too.
STI makes 10mm in both single stack and their modular 2011. They make pistols that are used extensively in the USPSA/IPSC competitions. Also SVI will make the 2011 in 10mm also
I love my Springfield Omega 10mm 1911. Shoots like a ***** cat crossed with a laser beam. Recoil is less than a 45acp 1911. These were actually all custom built pistols:

Sig Sauer is supposed to be bringing out a 1911 in 10mm.
I have one of their TacOp versions in 45 ACP.
Great quality and a nice heavy platform to absorb recoil.
Maybe a stronger spring??
I got to handle one that a local smith was converting. Unfortunately I didn't get any trigger time.
He said the he felt little difference in recoil with the buffer and spring system for the Rowland.
I would assume the same for the 10mm vs the 40 S&W.
The Rowland slide release while not broken in was a beast to depress with the tension of those springs. How is the release on a 10 mm?
Just picked a Clark kit for my Springfield RO. The 24# recoil spring makes it a bear to take down and reassemble, but I just ordered a Sprinco RSA built specifically for the Clark kit. They say I can use one of their 20# springs with it - should be a big improvement. To some extent, the 460 Rowland is over-hyped, but I can shoot a 1911 much more accurately than I can something like a Ruger Redhawk with 300-320 grain hardcast. It does reach into the 44 magnum power range, but only with bullets up to about 255-260 grains. That outstrips the 10mm, though - not that the 10 is a slouch! With the 460 R, you really do have to watch out for bullet setback. It would not take that much to ruin your day.
Don't go too light with the recoil spring. It will beat your frame up and can affect cycling. You can also get the rubber recoil buffers that slide over the base of the guide rod that will help with that.
I've had Clark convert a 1911 GVT into a Rowland....I let them do the fitting. I use it for hunting hogs and like it very much but it is very particular. I wouldn't use it for daily carry as it requires a comp and has that monster spring. My buddy had a SW645 converted to take moon clips and shoot the Rowland. It's a slick set up...but nothing a heavily loaded 45colt wouldn't handle IMO.
what id like to see is an all steel commander sized 10mm that cost 800 bucks or less. I think it was Dan Wesson who made some years ago but they were a little pricy. Fixed income doesn't allow for expensive guns anymore. So I live with my Glock 20
The Omega has a patented Peters/Stahl multi-caliber headspacing method that uses two huge extractors in opposition. It works quite well. The pistol got a bad reputation for failure of the recoil assembly, but in the unlikely event that it does fail, it can be reinforced pretty easily when brazing it back together.
Besides contracting with Springfield to build the Omega, Peters/Stahl was the manufacturer of the truly awesome Pachmayr 22 conversion for the 1911. They did very fine work.

Never had a sti 10 but I did have a 9mm Trojan and it was the 1911 ive allways said was the best bang for the buck of any 1911 ive ever owned. For a grand its fit and finish and accuracy rivaled guns that cost twice as much.
I have a stainless Delta Elite and really love it, if I didn't I would give serious consideration to the RIA 10 mm. I have heard a lot of really good things about it. I have a RIA 45 acp 1911 mil/style blaster that does great.
Don't know about RIA, but I have heard that some of the Philippino guns have slides that are just spot heat treated. Worrisome given the trouble that EAA-Tanfoglio had with their 10mm slides cracking at one time.
I have one of first EAA 10mms, but never had any issues. I did notice right off the recoil spring was way too light for 10mm. I upgraded to a 22lb (if I remember correctly) wilson gunspring and have never had any issues with it.
My Rowland never did work out. Tried everything: heavier springs, lighter spring with Springco recoil reducer made specifically for the 460. Could not get it to run consistently and this was in a Springfield 1911, which is one of Rowland's recommended guns for the conversion. Now looking for a 10mm 1911. Love the price on the RIA, but have heard too many complaints about lack of reliability. Others have no problems - seems hit or miss. I will probably save up for a Kimber. I have owned both a G20 gen 4 and a G29 gen 3, but neither felt comfortable in my hand. 1911s do.
My brother bought the 460 kit for his Colt 1991A1 several years ago and it has always functioned flawlessly. He did get a Thompson 10mm after they quit making them and Thompson said they would put it together with spare parts for him. He had feed issues but after some tinkering, we got it working correctly.
