I have read all the information on conversion to the small rifle primer. Not wanting to spend the $$$ before i knew if it worked, I developed a way to convert spent 209 primers to small rifle. By using a punch the primer can be separated from its housing. There is a pointed flat piece in there as well. Once the parts are separated take a punch and flatten out the dimpled surface created by the firing pin. Using needle nose pliers insert the pointed flat piece back in the primer housing. Now take a small rifle primer and insert it inside of the original primer that was reformed. You will find it just fits. Insert this back into the housing by striking it on a wooden surface.

If done properly it will fire flawlessly. I have yet to try it with a load in the muzzleloader, but wanted to see if anyone had an opinion on this.

I plan to try it out and if it works i will probably convert to one of the pr bullet rigs.

You fellas have missed the point. It is obvious that this method is a little more tedious. However, it doesn't take a rocket scientist with hours of free time.

The point is one can try small rifle primers at no cost until they determine if it is a solution to accuracy problems.

As I stated i will convert to one of the other methods if the small primer proves to increase accuracy.

I understood what you meant from the get go. But still not worth the time and effort. If that is what you want to do they by all means be my guest.

they make something like this already. it is a brass 209 primer that you just push in a center fire primer and load it like a normal 209 primer. they run something like $25 for 10 this includes a loading tool. I have some but have yet to test fire any. they take very little lime to deprime and reprime and easily done and can be done at the range with no troubles.

I agree that the plan is good if you have more time than money. I just spent the big bucks and bought the conversion and would not go back to the 209 primers even if they shot the same as the .25ACP is so much easier to handle when hunting I love them. Mine also does help with the crud ring. As far as accuracy I do not have any proof that it is an improvement. Your method is one way to find out if the primer is working for you so I give you credit for figuring out how to do it. I looked at the same thing but decided it was too much work for me. I would not spend the money for the 209 copy that takes small rifle primers as by the time you get enough to shoot several rounds you will have a lot of money invested. The .25ACP is super for me as I have several hundred cases as I handload and pick up brass at a shooting site where no one picks up .25ACP cases.
