Trying to fill one more slot in my barrel collection and looking for a little advice of 22 cal. barrels.

In centerfire I prefer the 14's but in rimfire I was considering going to a 10 or 12".

I see there are nonmatch and match barrels available. I plink and use the TC for fun. Might do a little squirrel huntin down the road a bit but for the most part it is used to punch paper.

Have folks found a substantial difference in accuracy between the the factory Match vs. Nonmatch barrels?

Also will the 10" provide decent accurracy (say 1" groups or so) out to 50 yards once I figure out which ammo the gun likes?

Finally if ya got one of these buggers layin around ya wanna unload drop me a note...

Thanks.... DonT :D

I have a 10" standard barrel that will hold 1/2" at 50 meters with Winchester super X. It started out as a 14" but I wanted a 10" so I shortened it and re-crowned. Mounted a 4x14 Simmons ATV rifle scope and at 25meters its practically a one holer. The big scope really makes it easy to shoot. I asked about the match barrels awhile back and was told some ammo might not chamber. Didn't find any body that said they really got better accuracy from a mathch barrel. KN

22 barrel length

My father had the 14" and had to turn down the barrel...too heavy with that little hole.

In a rimfire I think the 10-12" barrels are much more convenient. Don't lose much velocity...certainly don't lose accuracy and it is easier to shoot.

I have always gotten the match chamber so I cannot comment on one chamber versus another.

I practice for big game hunting with a 10" LR and an 11" mag barrel in my Contender. Great for that.

I second the comment about rflescopes on a rimfire. I have a rifle scope on the LR and it is much easier to squirrel hunt with. I keep a pistol scope on the mag barrel so it more closely simulates my 7-30 Waters setup for practice. LR barrel has a Burris 2x7 rimfire riflescope on it. Will outshoot most rifles and is easy to brace on a tree and hunt with or shoot offhand.
