Robert had asked if I could make one. Well he has gotten me thinking. As he posted I will need a minimum order say 1500 bullets to justify this venture.
What I have done is contact Sierra as I belive the make the best profile 240gr match bullet. They were kind enough to provide the demensions of the pertinant areas of there product.
So then I contacted Lee wich I belive makes some of the best mould blocks around. They will cut the bullet in one of my blocks if possible wich saves us time and money. If not the will build a block to fit my needs.
The blocks will be based on a Lyman set up so if some one wants the same mould we can work it out through me. As they will want one order from one local. Price yet to be determined. They will let me know prior to cutting the moulds.
So here is what I am doing today I will be hand cutting a mould ( I have no lathe) this will entail some other bullets and things that would scare you if you knew. Once the bullet is cast I will post pictures hopefully today.
I will then take bullet to the range for testing in my 30BR 1in 10 twist Contender. I can duplicate whisper al the way to what the **** was I thinking with this cartdrige. This will be done this weekend. If the bullet works and I have enough intrest I send things to Lee.
How is that for you guys.

Sounds real good, I have been wondering about them....

...sounds like Dennis has ben following all this. Wad-cutters....that's a great idea........goes with some of the info we have been reading. But first things first. Billy, I would love some to try. I dont know what your production schedule is, you are probably making them one at a time at this point. When you get it ironed out, put me on the list.

Been wanting a soft lead wadcutter in .308...

and just got a Corbin press from a fella who was short on cash on paying for a gun he bought from me. It only came with a .45 die though. Not sure if it would be cost effective to get a .308 die? With soft lead, I would be assured of expansion at subsonic velocities.

As soon as I get cuaght up on this weeks orders I will be finishing up a second mould and they will go into production. As for the gentleman with the corbin set up it would be worth the try. But I doubt that with out a jacket you could control the expansion.

Mr. Marr-you got me curious about your 30BR?

What kind of ballistics have you gotten with your cartridge? Sounds like is shoots great with your cast bullet! What twist is it, and who made the barrel for you? How do you figure out your max, since it is a pretty big case, and cannot load it hot like in say a XP-100? Appreciate any info! Dennis e-mail [email protected] :D
